People Who Live in Boise Have Choices when Thinking about Mortgage Lenders

I’ll confess something to you: I was a bit of a troublemaker as a kid growing up in Boise, ID. I liked to stir things up quite a bit. However, I was also pretty smart about it. I liked to push the envelope, but I also stayed below the radar. So, while I was a great instigator, I never really got in all that much trouble. In the end, I was good at covering my tracks. I think the secret was I was good at school, and I got high grades. I was also friendly and respectful to my teachers. That helped me steer clear of any major run-ins with authority. I guess, when it comes right down to it, I model most of my childhood behavior on Eddie Haskell. You know, Eddie Haskell - Wally’s best friend on the old “Leave it to Beaver” television show. He was great at causing all sorts of trouble, but he was also fantastic at avoiding the blame. What a role model.

There was one time, though, where I did get into trouble. A lot of trouble. I was having an argument with my dad, and he said the classic dad line, “As long as you live in my house, you’ll obey my rules.” I was a little tired of hearing that, so I (without thinking) shot back with, “Dad, it’s actually the bank’s house. Shouldn’t I be following their rules?” Funny? Yes. Did my dad think so? Sadly, no.

But, in truth, it was the bank’s house. After all, the local Boise bank was our mortgage lender, and they lent my dad the money to buy the house. Of course, he had to pay the money back, and he also had to pay interest, based on a yearly mortgage rate. So was I technically right? Of course I was. Was I still in trouble? You bet I was. Worse yet, my dad made me work for the mortgage lender, and I spent three agonizing weeks calculating yearly mortgage rates for customers who had questions about their mortgages. It was torturous.

In the end, though, I did learn something: I should have watched more “Leave it to Beaver.”
