Bill Clinton Promises Support for Obama
Former President Bill Clinton announced that he is willing and ready to support Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama in his bid for the White House. Clinton also revealed that he had a long talk with the Illinois senator but stated that he has not yet decided if he will be speaking at the Democratic convention in Denver. (Former presidents are normally given a prime speaking spot at the convention.) Clinton expressed his readiness by saying he was raring to do whatever Obama asked him to do whenever he can do it. Obama and the former president’s relationship was rekindled only after the Democratic nominee defeated Clinton’s wife, Hillary, in the primary. Although Clinton’s announcement of support may have surprised several groups and voters, it was expected to eventually happen. The adage still rings true: once a democrat, always a democrat. Some Democratic strategists and political advisers, however, have expressed their views that Clinton’s entry into the Obama campaign may eventually become a liability. What made them say so? Was it Bill Clinton’s previous statement that Obama was too inexperienced? Or was it simply because Clinton is a former president who might know too much about things and people? We cannot dismiss what the strategists say; but then, there’s always the possibility that Clinton might actually help bring Obama to the White House. We’ll just have to wait and see.
